| What to Expect at your first Appointment: |
|
|
1. Greeting and Intake:
If this is your first time into the studio, you will be asked to complete a confidential Health Information/Intake Form (unless you would prefer to do that online ). Afterwards, you and the therapist/LMP will briefly discuss your health history and current situation as relevant to the upcoming massage session. |
2. Preliminaries: The therapist will conduct you back to the session room (an excellent opportunity to visit the restroom presents itself now…). You will be directed on where to place your things, how to get on the massage table. You may disrobe completely (the sheets can be skillfully manipulated to preserve modesty), or may retain some clothing (e.g. underwear). |
 |
3. The Session: Upon returning to the session room, the therapist will get some music going (you may also bring your own music), adjust lighting and “face-cradle” angle, and then begin the massage. Details of each session will different according to each client’s needs and preferences, but often the massage will start with back, neck, and shoulders; proceed to hands and arms; then to feet, legs, and hips. Upon turning over onto your back, the massage will continue with more work on the legs and arms, and then finish with more extensive work on your neck, shoulders, face, and head.
At various times during the session the LMP will “check-in” with you about your comfort and enjoyment of the session, with questions like “how is the pressure so far?” or “is it painful as I pull here?” Proper feedback from you is very important for the overall success of the session: feel free to speak up at any time with any comments, suggestions, cautions, or complaint that you want to communicate. Ideally, you and the therapist will be cooperating together to create the perfect massage…. |
4. After The Session: When the massage is concluded, the LMP will leave the session room. Feel free to take your time and “reconnect with reality” before getting up off the massage table and getting dressed, visiting the restroom, etc… Back in the reception area, you’ll be offered water (proper hydration is important at all times, but especially after a massage… ask the LMP why…), invited to comment further on the session if you like, and queried as to when you might like your next appointment. Payment is commonly accepted at this time (although you may take care of that before the session if you’d rather…), and questions about such things as Discount Programs can be answered and appropriate arrangements made for such, if desired.
Lastly, you will be seen on your way: hopefully with a lighter step, a higher chin, a brighter eye, and a bigger smile than when you arrived. Come back soon! |
